Adventure & Challenge
Due to moderate hiking on hill paths, forest trails, suspension bridges and steep hikes to High Camp.
The expedition starts with a short trek to the major trailhead of Kande with a drive out of Pokhara. Starting at Kande, the path takes you through the quiet Australian Camp, then an arable farmland with rhododendron forests as its next stop, before Pothana and Forest Camp. With a view of the Annapurna range in the distance, trekkers steadily climb in altitude.
Starting at Forest Camp, the trail leads to Low Camp and then to High Camp, where the ground is more alpine in character and where the vistas of the mountains are magnificent. For a sunrise, trekkers frequently go on to Mardi Base Camp and back to High Camp in time to watch the Sunrise. The route back to Kande is the same, and the journey ends with several scenic and cultural attractions on the way.
- Day01Day 01: Arrival in Pokhara
Upon arrival in Pokhara, you will be transferred to your hotel located in Lakeside, the vibrant heart of trekking culture in the city. This day is reserved for relaxation and light exploration. You may choose to visit the serene Phewa Lake, enjoy a boat ride, visit the World Peace Pagoda, or simply unwind at one of the lakeside cafes. In the evening, you will attend a trek briefing conducted by your guide, who will go over the trekking route, safety measures, and tips to help you prepare for the days ahead.
- Day02Day 02: Pokhara to Kande and Walk to Australian Camp
The trek begins with a short drive from Pokhara to the trailhead at Kande. From here, you’ll start your hike through forested trails lined with rhododendron and oak trees. The path is a gentle uphill walk offering early glimpses of Annapurna South and the majestic Machapuchare (Fishtail Mountain). Along the way, you pass through small Gurung villages that maintain their traditional way of life. You’ll arrive at Australian Camp in the late afternoon, where the wide Himalayan panorama and peaceful setting serve as a perfect introduction to the trek.
- Day03Day 03: Trek to Forest Camp
Leaving Australian Camp behind, the trail ascends gradually through beautiful rhododendron, oak, and bamboo forests. The path is rich in biodiversity, and you may catch sight of various birds and small animals. The walk continues through terraced farmland and occasional clearings that provide dramatic views of the Annapurna range. After a steady day of trekking, you’ll reach Forest Camp, a quiet spot nestled in thick woods, where you can rest amid towering trees and the soothing sounds of mountain streams.
- Day04Day 04: Trek to Low Camp
Today’s trek is more challenging, with steeper trails that weave through alpine meadows and densely forested areas. As you climb, the forest starts to thin out, revealing stunning views of snow-capped peaks. You’ll pass small settlements and encounter colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind, giving you a deeper look into the spiritual life of the local people. Upon reaching Low Camp, you’ll be treated to spectacular close-up views of Machapuchare and Mardi Himal. The rest of the afternoon is for acclimatizing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings.
- Day05Day 05: Trek to High Camp
The trail becomes steeper and more rugged as you make your way to High Camp. The lush greenery gives way to alpine meadows, and the air becomes cooler and thinner. The views on this leg of the trek are breathtaking, with Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and Mardi Himal dominating the skyline. High Camp itself is a small cluster of teahouses perched on a ridge, offering panoramic mountain vistas. You can relax here, enjoy a hot meal, and, weather permitting, witness a spectacular sunset over the Himalayas.
- Day06Day 06: Hike to Mardi Base Camp and Return to High Camp
An early morning start takes you toward Mardi Base Camp, the highlight of the trek. The trail is rough and passes through rocky terrain, snowfields, and exposed ridges. Although optional, this hike is incredibly rewarding, providing one of the best viewpoints in the Annapurna region. Upon reaching Mardi Base Camp, you'll be rewarded with sweeping views of the Annapurna range in the morning light—perfect for photographs and reflection. After soaking in the scenery, you’ll return to High Camp for a well-deserved rest and overnight stay.
- Day07Day 07: Trek Back to Low Camp
After witnessing the grandeur of Mardi Base Camp, the descent begins. Retracing your steps, you make your way back through alpine meadows and forests. The trek becomes easier as you descend, and you’ll revisit many of the beautiful views you passed on your way up. You’ll return to the welcoming teahouses of Low Camp, where you can enjoy a warm meal and a restful evening.
- Day08Day 08: Trek to Forest Camp
The journey continues downward through the lush forests of rhododendron and oak, occasionally opening up to subtropical zones. With the decreasing altitude, the trail becomes gentler and more relaxed. This section of the trek offers a good chance to spot wildlife such as Himalayan birds, marmots, and perhaps even langurs. You’ll spend the night once again at Forest Camp, surrounded by the peaceful ambiance of the woods.
- Day09Day 09: Hike to Australian Camp
From Forest Camp, the trail descends further through bamboo groves and terraced landscapes. The scenery transitions from alpine forest back to cultivated farmlands and village paths. You’ll return to Australian Camp around midday, where you can enjoy some tea while admiring the Himalayan views one last time. It’s a great place to relax, reflect, and enjoy your second stay before completing the descent.
- Day10Day 10: Hike to Kande and Drive Back to Pokhara
The final leg of the trek takes you downhill from Australian Camp back to the trailhead at Kande. It’s a short and scenic walk through peaceful forests and small villages. Once in Kande, a vehicle will pick you up and drive you back to Pokhara. The evening is free for celebration, rest, and perhaps a lakeside dinner in the bustling but relaxed atmosphere of Lakeside Pokhara.
- Day11Day 11: Departure from Pokhara
After breakfast, you’ll be transferred to Pokhara Airport, or you may continue your journey to your next destination. The trek concludes with lasting memories of mountain beauty, local culture, and the sense of accomplishment that comes from completing one of the Himalaya’s most scenic and serene treks.

The best seasons to go on the Mardi Base Camp Trek are spring (March- May) and the fall
(September- November). During spring, rhododendrons are in blossom, forests are green, and
skies are clear, giving us vivid scenery. Autumn is a good time to visit because of stable
weather, cold mountain views, and favorable weather. Winter and monsoon seasons are not the
best options as they usually have snowy paths or heavy rainfalls that can make the trek more
difficult and dangerous.
